Personalised · drawn from the catalogue, not a template
The sky over one place,
the night it mattered.
Pick the date, the hour and the city. The chart redraws as you type — every star to the naked-eye limit, the constellation figures, the Moon in its true phase — and arrives as a print-ready file a few minutes after checkout.
Preview is a faithful reduction: same catalogue, same projection (north up, east on the left, as the sky reads overhead), same Moon. The print adds the Milky Way, the planets that were up, and the Explorer key strip.
How it works
Step one
Design it here
Date, hour, place, style and your three lines. The chart redraws as you type; the Design code under the price captures the whole design in one line.
Step two
Buy the file here, or the print on Etsy
The digital file ($16.99) checks out on this page and is delivered in minutes. For a poster or a framed print, order on Etsy and paste the Design code into the Personalization box.
Step three
Approve your proof
Etsy orders get a watermarked preview at thinkdotco.com/proof (the link is in your order confirmation). Approve it or change anything; if you do nothing, it prints 24 hours after the order.
What you receive
Files
PDF + PNG, two sizes
18×24 and 24×36 in at 300 DPI (7,200×10,800 px), vector PDF with fonts embedded, sRGB. Print at home, at a copy shop, or at any online lab; smaller sizes scale cleanly.
The sky
Real positions, not clip art
8,958 stars from the Yale Bright Star Catalogue, the 88 constellation figures, the Moon in its true phase and place, the planets that were up, the Milky Way. Local time is resolved for the place, so 9 pm means 9 pm there.
Delivery
Minutes, on this page
After payment this page shows your download links (live for 7 days) and a copy goes to your email. If a place or date is ambiguous, a person checks it with you within 24 hours before anything is drawn.
Questions
- Is the chart accurate?
- Yes. Positions come from the same equations an almanac uses (Julian date → sidereal time → altitude and azimuth), on the J2000 catalogue. The horizon is the circle, the zenith the centre, north at the top and east on the left — the way the sky reads when you look up.
- Which time zone is used?
- The place’s own, including daylight saving on that date. For cities in the list the preview already uses it; for a typed place it is resolved when the file is drawn.
- Can I change something after ordering?
- Digital file: reply to the delivery email within 7 days and we redraw once, free. Etsy print: open thinkdotco.com/proof with your order number and postal code — you can change the details there until the proof is approved or 24 hours have passed.
- Personal use?
- Personal and gift use, unlimited prints of your own file. Resale of the file is not permitted.
