About ThinkDotCo
ThinkDotCo restores public-domain artwork and packages it so an ordinary person can print it well. That is the whole business.
The world’s museums have spent two decades scanning their collections and releasing them for anyone to use. Hokusai, Mucha, Haeckel, Ortelius, Cellarius — all of it is free, all of it is public, and almost none of it is in a state you can actually send to a printer. Scans arrive with backing boards in frame, colour-calibration strips along the edge, odd aspect ratios that crop somebody’s face off in a standard frame, and no indication of how large the file can go before it falls apart.
Every file sold here has been through the same pipeline: source the highest-resolution scan available, verify its licence, crop to the print sheet, correct the mat and border, render a 2:3 family and a 4:5 family so it fits real frames, and measure the honest maximum print size at 300 DPI. Where a piece only supports a smaller print, the listing says so. We would rather sell you a modest print that looks right than a large one that looks soft.
Licensing, plainly
The underlying artworks are in the public domain, CC0, or works of the US Government. We verify every single source before it enters the catalogue — provenance is tracked per artwork, not assumed. Anything with a restrictive licence gets excluded, even when it is beautiful and would sell.
- You may print the files as many times as you like, for your own walls, as gifts, or for a small business — a cafe, a rental, a market stall.
- You may not resell or redistribute the digital files themselves, or package them into a competing download product.
- You do not owe anyone attribution. That is the point of a verified public-domain catalogue; nothing here will come back at you later.
How downloads work
Digital orders are currently fulfilled through our Etsy shop, which handles payment, VAT and delivery. After checkout the files are available immediately from your Etsy downloads page — and they stay there, so you can re-download years later when you replace a frame. A direct checkout on this site is being set up; when it lands, the buttons here will point at it and the Etsy listings will stay open alongside.
Large sets are delivered as several ZIP files rather than one, because the storefront caps individual file size. Unzip them all into the same folder and you have the complete set plus the printed size guide.
Physical prints and shirts
The same archive is available as ready-to-hang wall art — paper, canvas and framed — and there is a separate line of t-shirts. Those are printed on demand and shipped worldwide by our print partners, and they are sold through Etsy for the simple reason that returns, shipping and customs are already solved there.
Questions
Message the shop directly through Etsy and it reaches a person, not a queue. If a file will not open, if a print came out wrong, or if you want a piece at a ratio that is not in the set, ask — the source scan is usually big enough to accommodate it.
Old art, honestly measured, printed by you. Nothing more complicated than that.
