Goya, The Clothed Maja (La maja vestida)
The Clothed Maja (La maja vestida) is an oil painting by Francisco Goya of a reclining young woman in a white dress, painted around 1800–1807 and held by the Museo del Prado in Madrid. It is the companion to his earlier Naked Maja, and since Goya died in 1828 it is in the public domain.

History
Both Majas were painted for Manuel Godoy, the Spanish prime minister, and hung in a private cabinet in his palace; the clothed version is thought to have been painted a few years after the nude, possibly to hang in front of it. A maja was a woman of Madrid's working-class districts known for flamboyant dress and manner, and the costume here, the short embroidered jacket and sash, is that style.
After Godoy's fall the paintings were seized, and in 1815 Goya was summoned before the Inquisition to explain the nude. Both pictures entered the Prado in 1901, where they hang together. The identity of the model has never been settled; Godoy's mistress Pepita Tudó and the Duchess of Alba have both been proposed without proof.
What the print shows
A young woman reclining on green cushions with her hands behind her head, looking directly at the viewer. She wears a sheer white dress with a pink sash and a short jacket of gold-embroidered yellow silk, and small pointed slippers. The background is dark and plain so that the figure and the drapery carry the picture. The original is a wide canvas, 95 by 190 cm; the print keeps that proportion in a landscape format.
